Good things take time. I know this is the kind of platitude that we hear all the time, but it is the truth for me as I am finally able to swim again, along with the biking and the running. I’ve spent several hours over the past weeks at Playa de Las Canteras, swimming during the low tide, truly enjoying the sparkling waters and many fish just below my feet. And then the best feeling in the world, salty skin drying in the sun, can there be anything better than this?
A few days later I’m about to go to my next physio session and I realize that I can touch my back quite easily with my left hand. This was quite a problem only last week, but now it seems easier – all this work is paying off!
Last night I registered for my next race, the Mogan Challenge Anfi Half Distance race – a ½ ironman on April 22. I have a few months to get my swimming up to speed, and to keep stretching in order to use my aerobars – we will see. Running seems to be ok, biking as well. I’ve noticed a few issues with excessive sweat and the FreeStyle Libre 3’s ability to stay stuck in place, along with issues while swimming as well. Perhaps the smaller size of the unit and the reduced amount of… glue?… make it a more difficult task. I think it is time to look into adding some type of cover to it, like the one used with SuperSapiens.
Now that my physio sessions are coming to an end, it is time to get back to serious gym/weight sessions. Squats, one-leg strides, bench press, etc., and lots of core work to supplement the swim/bike/run sessions. Squats are still tough as my arm almost bends enough to hold the bar across my neck, so there is constant shoulder pain while doing this one. But the more I do it, the more it stretches, the better it is. So… deal with it. Each time is a little bit better. And a little bit better.
