Mind Games

What wins races, the body or the mind? How important is it to “out-prepare” the competition? After years of racing, I’ve come to the conclusion that planning and preparation are my secret weapon in this sport. I can out-think the competition and visualize so many scenarios that nothing catches me by surprise. I’ve played through them all so many times that I already know what to do in most situations, and I can do it quickly. Relaxed speed is the name of the game, no frantic last-minute thoughts like “oh, yeah, this seems like a good idea” as the most asinine race strategy flows from a stressed brain – none of that from this guy.

When it comes to racing, you are going to war. It is time to do everything possible to ensure that the outcome is in your favor, and that you are right in the head when it comes to decision making. There will be a lot of people on race day second-guessing themselves as they look at all the well-prepared people go about their battle plans. Do not be one of the second-guessers. Be assured of your battle plan, assured in your mind that you will do exactly what you need to do in order to achieve your preferred outcome.

This is not to say that you will achieve your results at the expense of your competitors, but rather that you will not falter in your decision process, will not hesitate where they might. And you will win because of this.
